The Wine

A blend of two dynamic Pinot Vineyards chosen for their balance and delicacy while still carrying the weight and depth that you would expect from a California grown wine. Gaps Crown is all about supple sexy fruit (see for yourself, we will release a vineyard designated Gaps Crown Pinot later this year) while the Griffins Lair is darker spicier and much more savory. While a couple lots chosen for this blend were done 100% whole cluster, the final blend for this wine is just 40% whole-cluster in order to achieve the desired balance of stem tannins and spice that we love in Pinot Noir.

The Winemaking

  • 100% Indigenous Fermentations
  • 100% Pinot Noir
  • 50% Griffins Lair
  • 50% Gap's Crown
  • 40% Whole Cluster
  • 11 month elevage in neutral French Oak barrels
  • pH – 3.56
  • Alc by Vol – 13.0%
  • 148 cases bottled

Tasting Note

Gorgeously light ruby in the glass with lively aromas of soft red fruits, leather and spice. Sensuously delicate and silky in the mouth with a decadently supple fruit character. This wine comes across as being delicate and light on the palate, but carries an incredibly luscious core of vibrant fruit.

Disclaimer

This wine is light, aromatic and sexy and avoids the heaviness that is so often found in California Pinot Noir. This wine is also loaded with acid and tension and spice….and thankfully reveals absolutely no indication that it was aged in oak barrels. Just to make sure we are all on the same page, this wine does not taste like Grand Cru Burgundy either…but it does actually taste like Pinot Noir …
