The Wine

From the steepest terraced section of this old-vine Santa Cruz Mountains vineyard, this is by far the richest Wind Gap Chardonnay to date. Standing on the shoulders of the many great Chardonnays from this area, this wine speaks of where it was grown rather than by whom it was made. This 2009 is also very special in that we have no 2010 or 2011 Woodruff Chardonnay due to the very cold and wet nature of those vintages.

The Winemaking

  • 1/3 in Concrete
  • 1/3 Stainless Steel
  • 1/3 in new French Oak.
  • 18 month elevage
  • 100% Chardonnay
  • 100% Woodruff Vineyard
  • pH – 3.3
  • Alc by Vol – 13.9%
  • 98 cases bottled

Tasting Note

Ripe pear skin, white peaches, honey, minerals and white flowers are all incorporated in the complex and heady aromas of this wine. The palate is broad and rich with a complex musk, fig and truffle nuance to the smooth and suave character. Quite powerful and clearly from old vines, this is a classic Santa Cruz Mountain Chardonnay.

Disclaimer

Richly fruited and a subtle hint of new oak separate this Chardonnay from the rest of the Wind Gap whites.
